April 29th to May 3rd, Stephen Bassett’s Paradigm Research Group is slated to serve up the latest publicity stunt on behalf of “disclosure.” It is called the Citizen Hearing on Disclosure and it will be held at the National Press Club in Washington, DC. The slogan for this event is “If the Congress won’t do its job, the people will.”
As a concerned citizen I am calling for this not to happen–and not for any ufological or phenomenological disagreement I may have with the participants. The reason is simply this: pulling a stunt like this after the Boston Marathon bombing is sick. Congress has a more urgent job to do than listen to a mixture of frauds, peddlers of frauds, and well-meaning self-promoters rant about a presumed undisclosed reality. They’ve got reality reality to deal with.
If after the Boston Marathon bombing you participate in a faux disclosure hearing featuring “testimony” from known frauds and promoters of known frauds to tell us to drop everything and pay attention because you’re presenting the most pressing issue of the day, what does that say about you? Granted, there may be a few people slated to speak who are ignorant of the motives of their fellow speakers. Heck, they may be from other countries and not even understand the significance of the bombing. Those few can be forgiven. But the rest?
Anyone who is scheduled to speak at Bassett’s “citizen hearing” needs to take a long hard look at themselves and their moral compass before hitting that stage. This is beyond selling books to the ufological crowd or drumming up interest in UFO conferences. Some things in life are more important than dollar signs and free publicity. Attempting to pull Congress’s and America’s focus during a time of more immediate concern is one of them.
The ones who may mean well, generally speaking, are taking the stage with others they know are frauds or promoters of fraud and that cannot be because they think mingling with frauds is the answer to shaking up Washington or making a beneficial dent in the American psyche about disclosure. You only take the stage with frauds when it doesn’t matter. You take the stage with them when it benefits you. That’s all well and good at a UFO conference but the last thing Washington or we need right now is this circus lying to us and telling us it is more than entertainment, more than important–it’s the most important issue on the planet.
No. No, it is not. It is, as I said, a publicity stunt. America’s latest wake-up call to reality came in the form of two bombs at the finish line of a race, not at the ungloved palms of Steven Greer’s “top scientists” manhandling an alleged alien fetus everyone with half a brain knows will turn out not to be that.
Below are the lists of speakers and former Congress people scheduled to attend. You can parse out who the good, the bad, and the innocent are on your own. If you feel the same way, send a note of disappointment or this link to your favorite speaker and/or ex-congress personality. Tell them it’s not okay, not this time. In fact, it’s objectively disgusting.

what a piece of crap
I’m with you on this one, Jeremy. It’s a bit like Mayor Giuliani focused on ridding New York City of pet ferrets when the city had immediate life and death problems ticking along, minute by minute. Get a grip, guys. I doubt very much that this group will call off the event, though. April 29th is soooo far away from April 15th, they figure Americans will have forgotten the bombs.
Jeremy, I say, “Let them waste $600,000 on their fake hearing with former Congressmen who are paid $20,000 each to sit and listen to their BS.” Ideally, they will have their fake hearing and only people who are paid to be there will show up. Now, that is where the rest of us who have reality reality to deal with can contribute – by paying them NO attention.
Carol, I think it is giving them too much credit equating these people with the credibility, responsibility and power of a mayor of any city. These people would like to think they are on par and are trying REALLY hard to go for it, but alas it is up to us to give it to them or not.
(On the bright side, if they have their fake hearing, then they are supporting the local economy by 1/2 million smackaroos. Kudos to DC! Although those former Congressmen should be ashamed of selling themselves so cheaply.)
Calling Phil Imbrogno …….
LIFE GOES ON. THIS IS A FREE COUNTRY. DO NOT DICTATE TO THE REST OF US . PEOPLE HAVE A RIGHT TO MEET AND SPEAK ABOUT ANYTHING THEY WANT….IF YOU DON’T AGREE WITH THEM, THEN TOO BAD!
YOU HAVE NOTHING TO SAY.ABOUT IT. SO…TO ALL OF YOU DICTATORS…..
MOVE THE HELL ON ….AND GET A LIFE.
.
Spoken like a true dictator.
Exactly. What in the world does this have to do with Boston? Everything doesn’t revolve around that one incident? There are thousands of issues that need to be considered. What in the world is this person’s problem? Bizarre.
Are you serious? Do you really believe that there is no other race out there? Are you happy with our use of oil and what it costs us to use it? If you think this is about little green men flying around in a saucer you couldn’t be further from the truth! Why don’t you try studying a bit before you post blogs like this? It’s interesting that you could call Dr. Edgar Mitchell, a fraud! And, exactly how does this have anything to do with the Boston bombings? This was planned so far in advance of the bombings – but guess they should have called it off, like you called off ALL of your plans!
I’m not certain which I enjoy more. Is it that you:
A.) completely misunderstand my post?
B.) have no clue who you’re talking to?
C.) are putting words in my mouth? (When did I call Edgar Mitchell a fraud?)
D.) are, in fact, a supporter of frauds as long as they say all the right words you believe in–like televangelists.
E.) are probably that same one guy posting here and at UFO Mag under different aliases trying desperately to get my attention when I’ve done nothing but shower you with attention? Granted, it’s negative attention–but you should be used to that, I’m guessing.
Go back to your basement kid(s). The adults are trying to hold a discussion.
Oh look, angry bleevers. Here’s how important this is. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/ufo-buffs-beam-well-paid-ex-pols-article-1.1330724
Now you can say, “Oh, that’s the media cover-up of ridicule” but the question is, then who is this stunt for? If it’s not going to break the barrier of the media, where will it go? Well, it’s going into a documentary Bassett is making, we know that much. And he will undoubtedly tout this as an historic triumph. But we know better because we read the headlines. (Or we can if we choose to open our eyes.)
Your blogging rant is illogical. UFO conference = screwing over attention on Boston bombing? The conference is being hosted OUTSIDE of congress. Its concerned citizens discussing it, its not even an officiated government event. This has nothing to do with congress, nor does it make any sense to affiliate it with “ignoring” the Boston incident.
What the promoters would like you to believe is the point of the conference is that the government is covering up deep knowledge of an alien presence here and Congress must act to release the information.
What the point of the conference actually is, is self-promotion.
In other words, business as usual for the disclosure farce–except it feels to me just a little bit dirtier when something actually important that maybe deserve Congressional attention happens. Something IN REALITY that doesn’t have to do with the Bassett/Greer profit margin/spotlight.
Steve Bassett, in true sleazy form, went on Coast To Coast and said he found the timing of the bombing suspicious. Because… you know, all eyes were on this disclosure conference circus.
Do you believe he believed that when he said it?
