  1. Way, way back in time we had the Emergency Broadcast System on the television networks. It was tested periodically and so far as I know, it was always clear a test was in progress which avoided false alarm panics. However, while we were quite accustomed to the tests, a ‘this-is-not-a-drill’ message might have created mass hysteria. If an error like that had occurred during a period of high tension such as what we now refer to as the Cuban missile crisis the public reaction might have been catastrophic.

    May our leaders be wise and the dudes get the Hawaiian notification system bugs worked out soon.
